The American Baptists trace our history back to Roger Williams’ First Baptist Church in America (1638). We are considered a “mainline” Protestant Christian denomination. There some variance of theological and mission emphases within the denomination. We are conservative in our beliefs and maintain a high degree of autonomy, even though we are part of the American Baptist denomination.
